"Youth Experience Learning Project" of Ministry of Education's Youth Development Administration encourages high school graduates to conduct experience learning. The youth conduct domestic and abroad self-learning for 2 or 3 years through making proposals on their own to explore their own personalities, interests, and life purpose. The experience learning activities are categorized into volunteering services, grand tour exploration, traineeship, entrepreneurship, and community apprenticeships. Registration is now open for high school students and graduates until March 16th. Welcome all teenagers who are looking for discovering their interests and future life purposes and plans.
TsungWei, Lin, the second generation of Taiwanese new residents, participated in the project, combining his interest in sociology with the experiential learning and showing his enthusiasm to the fullest. He went to Thailand for an in-depth study, participated in institutional services and broadened his mind of multiculturalism. TsungWei, Lin graduated from National Changhua Senior High School. He grew up feeling questioned on his abilities due to the label of being the second generation of a Taiwanese new immigrant. He believed that stereotypes are formed because humans allow them to exist. Silence and neglect are the advocators, therefore, he began to actively participate in public issues and spoke for the people and group like him. He aims at proving to others that there’s no difference whether you are the posterity of a new immigrants or not. Lin joined "Teenage Experience Learning Rooting Project" second year in high school, he set up his future goal to become a sociologist. After graduating high school, he continuously participated in “Youth Experience Learning Program” to explore himself and conduct in-depth services and started the experience learning journey with the theme of "local connection and international integration".
TsungWei, Lin has long devoted himself to issues related to social development, especially human rights. In the first three months of experiential learning, he first promoted the Convention on the Rights of the Child in elementary and middle schools across the country. After several lectures, he realized that not only children and students themselves should learn about children’s rights, moreover, educators should not stick to their past experience; they should step up and do more to defend children’s rights. TsungWei, Lin said he supports those advocates who kept low profile but putting endless efforts on this issue. They are like little seeds, and he wants to be a powerful catalyst to help the seeds.
After completing the lectures, TsungWei, Lin went to Chiang Mai, Thailand to join an internship at "Warm Heart" organization for 2 months. In addition to working on the research on the factors in the plight of the local children, what impressed him during the training was that the organization adhered to the concept of "helping others and helping ourselves". Local youth accept help from the organization then return to their community to help local farmers apply "bio-carbon" to improve the condition of the soil. They also assist the elderly and the physically and mentally disabled in the community to improve their living conditions. They enlighten their community and truly get in touch with people in need. TsungWei, Lin said, "Through Youth Experience Learning Program, I have the opportunity to observe and learn from different places, be aware of my own shortcomings, and clarify my learning path."
