To encourage youth to engage with local and care for communities, the Youth Development Administration (YDA) of the Ministry of Education continues to promote the “Youth Community Participation and Action 2.0 - Changemaker Project”, supporting youth in responding to local issues through their action. This year, a total of 50 action teams were encouraged. Among the participating teams, two teams of youth from Changhua and Kaohsiung used creative methods to evoke historical memories which allow stories that had been buried in the past to be seen again and transformed into energy to promote community well-being.
The ”蔗青工作室” based in Erlin Township, Changhua County, is composed of graduate alumni of Erlin High School, and their field of action cover the four townships in southwestern Changhua. The team focuses on the "Erlin Peasants Movement" that occurred in Erlin in 1925, which is the beginning of the Taiwanese peasant movement. They hope to not only look back this history on the centenary of the event, but also, through diverse methods such as field research, the podcast "蔗ê代誌," historical site visiting, community screenings by the "文協電影隊," transform of Taiwanese newspaper comics, and lesson plan design which allow local history to be review and pass on again, and to help masses rediscover the people who once lived and acted here.
The ”吾所視事” team who also focusing on sugar industry culture that based in “Sing-Tang Village” in Ciaotou District, Kaohsiung City for their action. They explores the lifestyle of a century-old sugar factory area from a youth perspective which conduct a field survey named “橋頭敲敲門” to interview residents and collect audio and video materials, then using these materials to create the board game “再見興糖村:尋找消失的村落”, conveying local memories through games and education. At the same time, they held the local exhibition “興糖村的日與夜”, combined art and interactive experiences, invited local residents and youth to participate, and showcased the intertwined cultural landscape of Sing-Tang Village's past and present.
The 2025 Youth Community Participation and Action 2.0 - Changemaker Project and Youth Hub Achievements Exhibition will be held from November 29th to 30th at Warehouse No.2 and No.3 of the Taipei Songshan Cultural and Creative Park. This year's theme is “青年居久屋”, brings together over 100 youth action teams. Each booth is a microcosm of youth's local action which showcase their efforts and achievements in responding to social issues and connecting local communities.
