In the first summer of high school, three students formed the "Antiquities safeguard Team" and participated in the "2018 Youth Experience Learning Roots Project" organized by the Youth Development Administration of the Ministry of Education to conduct island wide explorations of historical monuments that have only been seen in textbooks before. Experience the mysterious power and edification from cultural sites. During the journey each person utilize their respective strengths to portraits interactive stories and documented the impression.
Three members came from Chengde High School in Hsinchu City, Fuxing Occupational School and Personal Experimental Education, covering the diverse backgrounds of high school, vocational education and experimental education. The captain Xu Peirong is a self-learning student. She mentioned that "After browsing the contents of the project in detail, my intuition is that this plan is exactly what we are looking forward to! Because of the enthusiasm for painting, I have visited many art exhibitions in the past. This is the first time I participated the exhibition in other city and county, we don’t want to miss any place as long as it is a cultural park, an art exhibition, and a historical monument."
On top of visiting and appreciating, they set themselves a task of "Portrait sketching the exchange story" on their journey. Xu Peirong mentioned the cooperation: "I am very sensitive to the text and are responsible for the written records. While Ting-Shuan have been dreaming of being a painter since she was a child. It is her idea that in addition to the visit, there should be further interaction with people." In the process of sharing the life story with the other party, Ting-Shuan and Chian-Yi also exercise their artistic talent, sketched with a mark pen and a color pencil, and gave their works to other party after completion. The longest one took 2 hours to finish, because the story seemed to be stagnant. One after another, in the exchange of stories, each one acquired a new perspective and thought. The most impressive thing is the proprietress of the youth hostel. When she was traveling with her parents, she felt that it was a great thing to run a B&B. The growth process was based on the dream of a homestay with warmth and family feelings, and gradually settled down in Tainan to fulfill such dream.
Xu Peirong continued to share that a big brother who had just graduated from high school was working in a hostel to exchange the stay. He likes to interact with people. Because of his family background, he earns his living expenses during the summer vacation. He also trains his ability to be independent and takes care of others. The big sister of the hostel is from Hong Kong. Because she likes the relaxed atmosphere in Taiwan, she will arrange a short holiday every year to come to Taiwan. Everyone's life story is unique and precious. Xu Peirong said that she wants to be an editor in the publishing industry in the future, using words to touch people’s heart. She also considered herself very fortunate to confirm her own interest and direction through this youth travel experience. She met a big sister who encourage her: "Many people lost their dreams because of factors such as economy, parents, and age, etc., so they are more and more afraid to make dreams, therefore we must cherish valuable interest."
The Youth Administration's "Youth experience Learning Roots Project" encourages high school students to form a team to travel around Taiwan with their own planning and practical experiences during their studies.
