In order to help young people know the operation of the government and to help them accumulate work experience, Youth Development Administration, Ministry of Education cooperated with the central government and its affiliated units on "Government Internship Program for College Students", which provides college students a variety kinds of internship in the government. Wu Tsai Chen, a student at the Department of Chinese of the National Kaohsiung Normal University, chose to intern at Youth Salon, Kaohsiung- Pingtung- Penghu- Taitung Regional Branch of the Workforce Development Agency, Ministry of Labor in order to certain her career orientation and have a understanding of the operation of the government. Her main mission was to assist in the preparation of activities and the implementation of planning training courses, including planning, preparation, support and implementation of career related activities.
Wu Tsai Chen mentioned that Youth Salon is dedicated to helping young people understand themselves and develop their career, therefore, there are a lot of career assessment tools. In the first month of her internship, Miss. Wu found out she wasquitegood at liberal arts and business though the career interest assessment tests provided by the Youth Salon. Her internship supervisor also shared that any career assessment test is just to help people find their career aptitude. The most important thing is to develop a diversity of job types that they can do by assessment test results and combining their interests with past experiences. In this way, they can increase their workplace competitiveness. These are what an intern can extra gain at Youth Salon. Besides, Miss. Wu shared what she had learned at fitting class held by Youth Salon. She said no matter what kinds of filed a person enters, she needs to understand the basic ability required in the field in advance. In addition to enhance a person’s strengths, she can integrate into workplace at any time and increase spontaneous reaction.
Finally, Miss. Wu understood the significance of affinity, expressiveness and observation when serving the public. Besides getting closer to the public and improving the efficiency of conducting and promoting activities, she also increased her confidence and courage. Miss. Wu encourages future interns to discover themselves and find out where they need to strengthen during their internship so that they can strengthen their career advantages in the future.
Youth Development Administration, Ministry of Education provides 550 to 650 internship opportunities in 2019, and the hourly subsidy for the internship is NT150 per hour. There are three batches of the internship: April- May, July- August and October- November. Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Health and Welfare, National Science and Technology Museum, National Museum of Marine Science and Technology, Changhua Nursing House, Central Weather Bureau, etc. expect to provide internship vacancies in the second batch (July- August). The internships involves the practice of issuing passports, basic consular matters, Taiwan– U.S. economic and trade policy-related operation, the operation of general affairs of hospitals, museum displays and museum guided learning and operation, social workers and volunteers activities participation, meteorological services, etc. We welcome those under 35-year-old college students who want to know about the operation of the government to send their resumes according to their interests and expertise.
