The Youth Development Administration of the Ministry of Education held the inauguration of the second Youth Advisory Committee on May 24th. A total of 21 new advisers who will speak for the youth and invigorate youth policies were recruited after the one-month selection process.
The term of the second Youth Advisory Committee remains two years. The average age of the advisors is 27 years old. Among the 21 advisors, 9 are women and 12 are men by gender; 11 are students and 10 are employed young people by status. According to the Youth Development Administration, gender equality and a balanced proportion of students to employed young people were taken into consideration during the recruitment process in accordance with the rules in hopes of representing young people of different groups and generations. The Youth Development Administration will invite the youth advisors to offer recommendations for projects and speak for young people in the future.
A total of 136 outstanding young people registered for the selection process this year. Much to its regret, the Administration were unable to accept all of the applications due to limited quota. Nonetheless, the Administration will hold a variety of events for young people to participate in public affairs and exert their influence in addition to serving on the advisory committee.
Members of the first committee attended the inauguration to share their experiences and enthusiasm at the invitation of the Administration in hopes of familiarize the new advisors with the activities and functions of the Administration. Dr. Ching-Shui Lo, Director-General of the Youth Development Administration, pointed out in his remarks that President Tsai attached great importance to youth empowerment, which requires the concerted efforts from both the government and young people. The Internet has given rise to many voices. The Administration, the accountable agency, will execute polices to empower young people while the Youth Advisory Committee will play an important role in conveying the views of young people. Advisors are encouraged to offer valuable insights, meaningfully participate in public affairs, and facilitate communications between the government and the youth.
