In 2018, the Department of Nursing of Cardinal Tien Junior College of Healthcare and Management launched a career development program with the subsidies from the Youth Development Administration. This program aimed to increase students’ motivation for learning and assist them with career development. Under this program, students were able to improve their general nursing, communication, cooperative, and coordination skills as well as core competencies by participating in a contest consisting of four skill sets, including medical terminology proficiency, nasogastric feeding, high-volume enema, and indwelling catheterization.
Some 50,000 students have benefited from the Administration’s program aiming at subsidizing colleges and universities for career development services. Students participated in a variety of career development events, such as seminars, workshops, tours, educational programs, and interviews. In addition, the Administration had launched a program to develop teaching materials for career development. Based on this program, the Administration has continued to promote the inclusion of career development in both general and professional courses in 2019. With the integration of emerging industrial trends in Taiwan into the program and activities for college students, career development services are now better associated with industrial development. Through career exploration and planning, competency development, and workplace experiences, students were able to further develop themselves, demonstrate their competitiveness, and polish their employability skills.
