Society nowadays is full of diversified views, which require listening and mutual understanding. Thus, deliberative democracy, characterized by learning, listening, and dialogs, is needed. The Youth Development Administration of the Ministry of Education has continued to organize training programs to develop talent for moderating deliberative meetings.
The program this year unprecedentedly focused on developing talent in the fields of educational innovation, placemaking, media literacy, and tribal development. Together with the project titled 2019 Youth Policy - Let’s Talk, this program created opportunities for young people sharing similar aspirations to open up discussions, acquire skills necessary for moderating deliberative meetings, and give back to society by contributing practicing experiences. These efforts will increase public and social awareness among young people.
Basic training of the program started on June 29th and 30th at the IEAT Convention Center. A total of 88 participants were selected from more than 100 young people who registered for the program. Participants was able to develop relevant skills and knowledge, understand the organization of deliberative meetings, and skills required for moderating such meetings. Additionally, seasoned mentors who had been experienced in moderating deliberative meetings were invited to lead discussions on practicing deliberative democracy in Taiwan.
吳勻灼(Wu, YUN-JHUO), a first-time participant, was particularly interested in sessions dedicated to deconstructing skills, which not only can be applied to discussions but also to daily lives. By applying these skills, news audiences will no longer receive information unilaterally. Wu also expressed the willingness to participate in the advanced training held on August 17th to acquire more skills and hands-on experiences for moderating deliberative meetings.
