The Youth Development Administration, Ministry of Education (YDA) is organizing the “Outstanding Dream Idea Competition” this year to encourage young people to transform their learning from local courses into innovative ideas through in-depth local observation and community experience under the Youth Hub program. Those who have attended any local courses or participated in hands-on fieldwork for this year may submit action ideas to address potential community needs or future aspirations in the community, and upload their proposals to the “Youth Changemaker Community Participation Initiative 2.0” website (https://changemaker.yda.gov.tw/) before 12:00 noon on September 8, 2025, for a chance to be awarded with a NT$10,000 cash voucher!
This year’s competition will expand the selection of 30 outstanding proposals, and for the first time, introduce the “Dream Idea Implementation Training Scheme”. Upon selection, award winners will be accompanied by the YDA and professional mentors, offering advice and guidance on the implementation of their ideas, as well as funding of up to NT$20,000 for their efforts. With the principle of “Accompanying the Youth, and Supporting them in Taking Actions”, the YDA hopes to facilitate young people to experiment and realize their ideas, allowing their creativity to blossom and bear fruits at the local level instead of merely being on paper.
The 2024 edition of the competition saw a number of entrants presenting amazing action ideas. Among them, the team of Hsu Sheng-Han and Yan Cheng-Ya proposed “Goodbye Hsingtang Village”, a project that focuses on Hsingtang Village in Qiaotou District, Kaohsiung City, which will surely be changed with the upcoming construction of connecting roads. Through conducting field interviews and curating art exhibitions, the project aims to recreate the atmosphere of the former dormitory lounge. The team also intended to develop a board game that would allow more people to interactively experience this disappearing village, demonstrating the creative imagination of local preservation initiatives. This proposal, full of ingenuity and warmth, was eventually recognized by the 2024 Outstanding Dream Idea Award. Furthermore, the project also received support this year by the Actor Team of the Youth Changemaker Community Participation Initiative 2.0, accompanying them in their continuous pursuit of local community engagement!
Each dream idea carries the youth’s unique view of their local community and countless possibilities of translating their visions into concrete actions. This year’s 30 outstanding proposals will not only receive prizes, but will also be displayed at the “Youth Changemaker Community Participation Initiative 2.0” Exhibition on November 29 and 30 at Songshan Cultural and Creative Park in Taipei City, along with the award ceremony on November 30.
Those who have deep feelings for their hometowns and action ideas for community development are welcome to enroll in Youth Hub’s Local Courses to be eligible to submit proposals for the Dream Idea Competition. Let’s join the team of Dreamers and use our creativity to brighten up local communities and take action to map out a better future for our hometowns!
