Youth Development Administration of Ministry of Education promoted "Touching Taiwan Youth Travel Program" Program to encourage young people to experience Taiwan and get to know more about our motherland. There are 111 groups of young people who are brave enough to step out their comfort zone and explore around Taiwan. They went on a grand tour and conduct social care. They created young and unique warm-hearted experiences and made the sceneries on their way full of love and humanities.
Travel around the island is many people’s first impression when it comes to “grand tour”. However, other than biking, motorcycling, training, or walking; is there any way of touring around the island that can provide not only a chance to see the spectacular scenic views but also combine one’s specialty to help others? The 2019 selected team, “HitchTrio” is founded by three young musicians who love Chinese Classical Music. They used to perform publicly in concert halls or auditoriums, but audiences are always an exclusive certain groups of people. Therefore, HitchTrio members started thinking about the ways to promote Chinese classical to those who have never experienced this kind of music genre. HitchTrio team leader, Ji-Rong, Luo told us, “Different from other island tours, we are going to create a Hitchhike car. Let’s drive around Taiwan!”
This summer, “HitchTrio” members took their Chinese traditional instruments and went on a road trip. Driving their self-remodeled version of Hitchhike car, they visited hundreds of nursing homes and recreation sports that the elderly hang out around in cities and counties all around Taiwan. They played some well-known tunes from older generation and the accompaniment of karaoke hits. They invited local performers and audiences and interacted with the elderly. HitchTrio’s shows for public interest and charity made its mark on this project of “Love Map.”
“Grand Tour” is not only a track to follow but a journey to be closer to dreams, a process to create sparkles between oneself and the local humanities and cultures.
